What is eyebrow threading?
Threading is an ancient method of hair removal used to give clean lines and great shape to your eyebrows. It has been around for over a thousand years. Its like tweezing but instead of pulling one hair at a time, a row of hair is pulled from the follicle or the root.
Where did threading come from?
It originated in the Middle East and Asia. It has been an ancient art for many countries such as India and Turkey. In Arabic, threading is called Khite. In Egypt, it is called Fatlah.
Threading vs. Waxing
Threading is more hygenic because natural cotton thread is being used while with wax, the same wax is being used all day long. Waxing causes wrinkles and takes off the top layer of your skin therefore causing redness and breakouts. Threading gives you a cleaner and more defined shape than waxing. There is more control with thread than wax and it is great for people with sensitive skin or taking acne medication such as Retin-A or Accutane.
How much does threading cost?
Depends on where you live and how popular it is in your area, threading costs from $5-$30 for eyebrows. Costs vary for other parts of the face: chin, upper lip etc.
How long does threading last?
Usually lasts 2-3 weeks depending on individual hair growth. Some people can go one week if they are hairy or one month if hair grows back slowly.
Benefits of Threading
Threading is for anyone 12 years and up. Men can benefit as well, especially the ones with a "unibrow". Hair grows back less and is softer. Some people do experience some redness but not half as bad as waxing.
How is it done?
With one simple tool, regular cotton thread. One end of the thread is held between the teeth of the esthetician and the other end is held firmly with one hand. The index and middle fingers of the other hand then forms a loop in the center of the string. Hard to imagine: seeing is believing!!
